• Question: if phone batteries were made out of something other than lithium would we still get water damage?

      Yes. Even if phone batteries were based on a different metal the presence of water in the battery would still cause damage as it would still disrupt how it worked.
      To prevent water damage in phones the focus would need to be on the casing around the battery, unfortunately making this water proof would probably also make the battery much bigger.
