• Question: Could there be a different, cleaner source of energy that could be discovered? Do we already know of one but don't know how to harness it? And could we eventually run the whole world on it? How long would that take?

I am not aware of a “super” energy source, but I believe that we will overthink the general cycle life of energy in the future. This includes never ending recycling (no waste). If we learn how to convert any used energy form into another, we should be able to maintain a far more efficient energy usage.

Quantum Physics is most likely an area that shows best promises to many researchers when it comes to energy conversion.

I’ve no idea, maybe you’ll discover one! On Earth the energy flows in and out are pretty well understood, we can definitely power the whole planet on the amount of solar energy we receive. We have a lot of nuclear energy too.
