About Me

I am a research scientist who studies human metabolism through nutrition and exercise

I work at the University of Bath in the South-West of EnglandĀ andĀ live nearby the University campus with my wife Kate and our two boys Charlie and Theo. In addition to my passion for science, I love basketball.

My Work

Metabolism is the sum of all processes going on inside our bodies and nutrition describes our need for the many nutrients that are required to keep us alive and well. My research involves carefully measuring those metabolic processes in response to different circumstances. Two of the most potent ways to challenge metabolism are either to provide more nutrients to the body (e.g. through food/diet) and to use more nutrients (e.g. through daily activities/exercise). We therefore conduct lots of experiments where we ask our volunteers to eat certain foods and/or adjust their lifestyles so we can measure the effects on their health.

My Typical Day

Obtain blood, muscle and fat samples from volunteers and write-up the results
